It shapes:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">nutrition programs (like SNAP)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">crop supports and commodity programs<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">conservation and environmental quality<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">rural development<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">local and regional food systems<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While many faith groups have historically focused on hunger and nutrition, the Farm Bill also contains critical environmental provisions, including:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">EQIP (Environmental Quality Incentives Program)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CSP (Conservation Stewardship Program)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">soil health and water protection measures<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">climate resilience and sustainable agriculture investments<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These programs directly affect frontline communities, farmers, ranchers, ecosystems, and food-systems. Collectively they have significant impact for our long-term goals on climate and sustainability. When approached more holistically, in relationship to goals on hunger and poverty, they are even more critical in moving us toward a people centered economy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By encouraging faith groups and others of moral conscience to take the environmental dimensions of the Farm Bill seriously, UUSJ has helped broaden the moral conversation around the bill \u2014 connecting food justice, climate justice, and environmental justice in a more unified, interrelated, framework. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Understandings continue to evolve and respond to current conditions, but we believe we are, and have been, h<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">elping expand the collective impact for justice in the Farm Bill.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Farm Bill is a major piece of federal legislation passed roughly every five years.
