Unitarian Universalists for Social Justice (UUSJ) exists to \u201cadvance equitable national policies and actions aligned with UU values\u201d and to \u201cequip UUs for effective advocacy rooted in justice, compassion, and the worth and dignity of all people.\u201d That mission depends on more than passion or policy expertise \u2014 it depends on continuity, shared wisdom, and the ability of communities to learn from experience and carry that learning forward.<\/span><\/p>\n Knowledge stewardship is one of the quiet, powerful ways UUs strengthen that mission. It ensures that advocacy efforts, partnerships, and congregational justice ministries do not lose momentum when people transition, circumstances shift, or institutional memory thins. It helps communities stay resilient, grounded, and connected to the wisdom that makes justice work sustainable.<\/span><\/p>\n In this way, knowledge stewardship is not separate from UUSJ\u2019s mission \u2014 it is one of the ways we live it. It is a practice of care that supports dignity, interdependence, and the long arc of justice.<\/span><\/p>\n Knowledge Stewardship Is Justice Work<\/b><\/p>\n When we talk about justice, we often talk about courage, advocacy, and moral clarity. But justice also depends on something quieter: the ability of communities to <\/span>remember<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n Your congregation already holds enormous wisdom \u2014 stories, traditions, lived experience, ministry practices, and the tacit knowledge that keeps things running \u2014 perhaps a legacy of learning from faith-based organizing in local coalitions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Churches thrive when the wisdom of many \u2014 not just a few \u2014 is shared, remembered, and passed on. They are about noticing what matters, capturing what helps, and sharing what strengthens the whole.<\/span><\/p>\n Why This Matters for UU Justice Work<\/b><\/p>\n Unitarian Universalists are called to build communities rooted in dignity, interdependence, and shared liberation. Knowledge stewardship is one way we live that calling.<\/span><\/p>\n It is a form of accompaniment. A form of solidarity. A form of love.<\/span><\/p>\n When we help a shelter preserve its onboarding wisdom, or help a food bank reduce retraining time, or help our own congregation remember its stories, we are strengthening the moral ecosystem that makes our justice possible.<\/span><\/p>\n Justice doesn\u2019t scale without shared knowledge.
