\"\"I had never been much of an activist, but the past eight years have taught me that complacency is not an option\u2014and\u00a0UUSJ<\/span> has helped me to act.<\/p>\n

I have always been well-read and attuned to politics and the critical issues facing this country, but I only became deeply involved in trying to be part of the solution once I encountered UUSJ<\/span>. Voting rights are a particular passion of mine, and after 2016, I began looking for an outlet to act on it. I went to the Women’s March and learned about\u00a0UUSJ<\/span>\u00a0by happy accident. When I looked into\u00a0UUSJ<\/span>, the mission and our UU approach spoke to me.<\/p>\n

UUSJ<\/span>, it is important to me to act on my convictions in a faith-based space because I know that our UU values, not money or power, drive our activism. Since joining the\u00a0UUSJ<\/span>\u00a0Democracy Action Team (DAT), I’ve found a fellowship and a community of thoughtful, compassionate individuals\u2014people who are committed to making our society and our world a better, more equitable place. \u00a0Over the several years I’ve been involved with the team, we have met with congressional leaders to discuss the issues important to our democracy and faith community. I was also able to help represent our work for a healthy democracy at the 2022 General Assembly and met many UUs concerned for our democracy.<\/p>\n

I found my voice through this organization and am so proud and grateful to be a member of our Board of Trustees.<\/p>\n
