{"id":24496,"date":"2021-12-23T16:38:54","date_gmt":"2021-12-23T21:38:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uusj.net\/wp1\/?p=24496"},"modified":"2021-12-23T16:59:11","modified_gmt":"2021-12-23T21:59:11","slug":"tony-giordano","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uusj.net\/wp1\/tony-giordano\/","title":{"rendered":"Tony Giordano"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I started working as an activist on issues related to democracy more than 10 years ago &#8212; just before the disastrous Citizens United decision by the U.S. Supreme Court, and just before joining a UU congregation in my home state of New Jersey.<\/p>\n<p>Initially, I focused on the problem of big money in politics, which was surreptitiously turning our country into an oligarchy.\u00a0 In my activities, I have always looked for actions that could have the greatest\u00a0<i>impact<\/i>\u00a0on public policy, or at least on public opinion.\u00a0\u00a0This is such a critical time as we try to save democracy in our country.<\/p>\n<p>This in a nutshell is why I joined the Democracy Action team of UUSJ in the summer of 2021.\u00a0Action.\u00a0Impact.<\/p>\n<p>Quite a few of the organizations I have worked with spend a lot of time talking, motivating, reflecting, etc.\u00a0 What I like most about the Democracy Action Team is that we take action with people in power, such as members of Congress.\u00a0 And we do it in a highly professional, carefully constructed manner.\u00a0 I have to believe that makes a difference.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, in this\u00a0<strong>Thanksgiving season<\/strong>, I feel gratitude and pride for Unitarian Universalists everywhere, who work tirelessly to make a better world.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tony Giordano<\/strong><br \/>\nUUSJ Democracy Action Team, Member<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I started working as an activist on issues related to democracy more than 10 years ago &#8212; just before the disastrous Citizens United decision by the U.S. Supreme Court, and just before joining a UU congregation in my home state of New Jersey.
