That\u2019s why I\u2019m asking for your <a href=\"https:\/\/salsa4.salsalabs.com\/o\/50780\/p\/salsa\/donation\/common\/public\/?donate_page_KEY=8091\">financial support<\/a> to add to our ability to \u201cchange the world through acts of love and justice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, UUs across the country answered UUSJ\u2019s <b>call to write Congress about the importance of keeping the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program <\/b>(SNAP) &#8212; food stamps &#8212; in the Farm Bill without adding onerous work requirements and other provisions that would make it harder for low-income people to put food on the table. Here\u2019s what some of you told your members of Congress through UUSJ\u2019s <b><i>Write Here! Write Now!<\/i><\/b> letter-writing campaign and Capitol Hill Advocacy Corps:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><i>Receiving food stamps back when my son was young allowed me to work, go to college, and improve my life. Hungry Americans need to know we care and will help them.<\/i><i><\/i><\/li>\n<li><i>My own family needs the program\u2026There were many days adults wouldn\u2019t eat so children could. Now we eat every meal together.<\/i><i><\/i><\/li>\n<li><i>I personally know a family whose mother and father are both on disability\u2026Every month is a struggle to provide their four children with the food they need.<\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_20229\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-20229\" style=\"width: 349px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-20229\" src=\"https:\/\/uusj.net\/wp1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/RepTomReed-with-AdvocacyCorps_IMG_2446-420x302.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"349\" height=\"251\" srcset=\"https:\/\/uusj.net\/wp1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/RepTomReed-with-AdvocacyCorps_IMG_2446-420x302.jpg 420w, https:\/\/uusj.net\/wp1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/RepTomReed-with-AdvocacyCorps_IMG_2446-768x551.jpg 768w, https:\/\/uusj.net\/wp1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/RepTomReed-with-AdvocacyCorps_IMG_2446-1024x735.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/uusj.net\/wp1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/RepTomReed-with-AdvocacyCorps_IMG_2446.jpg 1603w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 349px) 100vw, 349px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-20229\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">UUSJ Advocacy Corps volunteers held a broad-ranging discussion with Congressman Tom Reed (NY-23) who co-chairs the House bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>These <b>personal heart-felt stories put a human face to the statistics<\/b>, and help UUSJ convey UU values by sharing compelling voices with federal policy-makers.<\/p>\n<p>Now, thanks to relentless advocacy by faith and social justice groups, including dozens of Capitol Hill Advocacy Corps meetings with House and Senate staff at critical stages, <b>this part of the social safety net will be there next year<\/b> for those in need. Congress has passed the Farm Bill, and the President is expected to sign it soon.<\/p>\n<p>Keeping people in need from going hungry was just one of many social justice issues that UUSJ advocated for in 2018. We put our <b>UU values into action<\/b> by advocating for <b>immigrant rights, climate justice and the environment, and reducing economic inequality.<\/b> All while espousing the view that the federal budget is a moral document.<\/p>\n<p>As envisioned by UUSJ founders 20 years ago, <b>UUSJ has raised a \u201cloud unified UU voice on public policy issues.\u201d<\/b> Since February 14, 2017 we have delivered <b>nearly 4,300 personal letters of witness<\/b> written by you and other UUs across the country. This year alone, we made more than <b>1,000 visits to Congressional offices<\/b>, conducted <b>106 meetings with Congressional staff or Members of Congress<\/b>, and <b>mobilized UUs to take to the streets<\/b> in witness events.<\/p>\n<p><b>Will you help us continue and expand this work<\/b> <b>by making an end-of-the-year <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/salsa4.salsalabs.com\/o\/50780\/p\/salsa\/donation\/common\/public\/?donate_page_KEY=8091\"><b>donation to UUSJ<\/b><\/a> to help make our voice stronger in 2019?<\/p>\n<p>With your support, we can<b> sustain and strengthen our Capitol Hill Advocacy Corps, <\/b>reach more congregations with advocacy training, expand our <i>Write Here!
