Jaime Raskin (Photo by Jeffrey MacMillan)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>More than ever, it is time for UUs to come together to work for the progressive changes that we seek in our struggle to make our country just and peaceful. \u00a0\u00a0To back this effort, Unitarian Universalists for Social Justice, a 17 UU Congregation strong regional alliance will host a reception on <strong>Sunday, December 2<\/strong>, 2018 from <strong>4:30-6:30 PM<\/strong> at River Road Unitarian Universalist Congregation.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of this pivotal event is two-fold.<\/p>\n<p><strong>One,<\/strong> to celebrate the success and <em>raise<\/em> the funds necessary to support UUSJ advocacy and especially the success of the UUSJ Capitol Hill Advocacy Corps. <b>UUSJ&#8217;s all-volunteer Advocacy Corps<\/b> visits Capitol Hill each month, every second Tuesday, amplifying UU voices and reflecting UU values on issues of public concern like the environment and climate, immigration, and escalating economic inequity.<\/p>\n<p><strong> Two,<\/strong> to get guidance from <strong>Representative Jamie Raskin (D-MD)<\/strong>, a rising star for social justice in Congress, who is one of the top Democrats on the House Judiciary and Oversight Committees. \u00a0He will advise us in our fight for justice.<\/p>\n<p>We must not only resist reactionary policies and laws, but promote those policy changes that our UU principles compel us to achieve. \u00a0The time for advocacy action is now.
