UUSJ Adds A New Priority: Defending Our Democracy

In a survey distributed last Fall, our members told us they want UUSJ to focus our priorities in four policy areas:

  • New – Defending Our Democracy – New
  • Economic Justice
  • Environmental and Climate Justice
  • Immigration Reform

At the January 2019 meeting, the UUSJ Board approved these four as our Priority Issues for the next two years.

In the coming years UUSJ will do advocacy, education, and witnessing in each of these priority areas to the extent we have interested volunteers. As a volunteer-driven organization, we can’t pursue any of these important priorities without help from supporters like you.

What can you do? Get involved! Engage!

  • Join a task group on issues that are important to you
  • Do topic surveillance – find and share info about Federal legislation and major developments
  • Join or assist the UUSJ Capitol Hill Advocacy Corps – research, edit and write materials needed; and gather information about potential partner organizations.
  • Join the Program Committee – help organize meetings and information sessions

Success of any task group depends on active participation by UUSJ members who are interested in the issue. So get involved now by contacting Pablo DeJesús at info@uusj.org or volunteering on the web page.

So what about the other issues…..they are important too–you voted for them! Simply stated, we won’t try to set up task groups for these issues and make them a priority focus. However, if a witnessing opportunity or piece of legislation presents itself, we can still be involved.

Get involved and help UUSJ focus on Social Justice issues!
