Statement on Gun Violence

By Rev. David Miller, Senior Minister, UU Congregation of Fairfax, on Feb., 14

Of the many symptoms of systemic illness on display in our country, school shootings are among the saddest and most destructive. As I watched children today fleeing their school in Florida, arms raised, I thought not only is the horror of safe space violently violated, and more innocent children’s bodies desecrated, but the inevitable inconceivable defense of more, deadlier, and less regulated weapons of mass death by the NRA and corporate gun interests forthcoming. I am filled with grief for more families broken by this all too common horror, I am filled with outrage which will keep me relentless, I am filled with love of neighbor which will keep me motivated and I am filled with the spirit of all those who are working for change, which still allows me to hope.
