Get On Board An Engagement Success
On October 22, 2025, the Center on Faith and Justice, Sojourners, Interfaith Alliance, the Horizons Project, UUSJ, and many others organized an excellent online Interfaith Nonviolent Civil Resistance 101 training session.
The training was designed as a foundational session for faith leaders, both clergy and lay, seeking to confront authoritarianism and defend democracy through the power of nonviolence.
- Plenty of UUs attended
- Many wrote to UUSJ declaring it was the best training of the year so far
- Others said it was above and beyond what they had seen from other, mostly secular, organizations
The training landed so well because we came together in an interfaith, multi-religious way, with deep buy-in from ecumenical Christian groups across multiple organizations.
Together, we put an explicitly faithful frame on excellent content from some of America’s top Civil Rights and non-cooperation organizers and trainers.
From our vantage at UUSJ, this was a clear example of:
- Living into our mission to advance equitable national policies and actions, aligned with UU values, through engagement, education, and advocacy; and,
- Meeting a strategic objective to act in coalition, and support coalition behavior and participation among UUs.
Here are some actions you can take starting now!
- Share the PowerPoint slides or webinar recording to inspire and equip others to take action
- Start your own cohort by organizing a group of people to review the content and begin to brainstorm what you might do in your local context
- Use these resources and share with fellow faith leaders
- Invite UUSJ to make a similar presentation to your regional cluster (email info@uusj.org)
- Send this form to other leaders who might be interested in joining future trainings
