Get Connected to the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival

Rev. Robin Tanner Beacon Unitarian Universalist Congregation Summit, NJ and Faith Team of the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival

Over 30 states have committed to a Real Emergency Truth and Poverty Bus Tour, which began recently and runs through early May.

The bus tours are an important way that we are raising the issues of this campaign: poverty, systemic racism, ecological devastation, the war economy and the distorted moral narrative from the very voices who are impacted.

In the lead up to the 2016 presidential election, there were 25 debates and not a single question was asked about poverty or systemic racism.

There was no discussion on restoring the Voting Rights Act. Issues like ecological devastation and the war economy were never fully discussed from the position of those hit first and the worst: the 140 million people who are poor and low-income in this country. And the distorted moral narrative of religious nationalism was left unchallenged.

We have got to tell our own stories and amplify them!

Coordinating committees in the states are led by fusion coalitions that include impacted folks leading the way.  This also means that resources for these tours are needed, especially space to meet, food for the journey, fuel for the bus and vehicles.

If you serve a community that wants to amplify the voices of the poor, support the tours and impacted leaders in the states, then a key way to engage and support the Poor People’s Campaign is to let us know how you can be connected. We’ve created a form found here that will help you sign-up.  We are asking all faith leaders and faith communities who think they might be able to provide any support before, during or well after the bus tours to please fill this out.

Share it with your networks. This is truly how we move,

Forward Together,
