Title: Communications Assistant

Reports To: 

  • Executive Director
  • Collaborates with an Administrative Assistant and a communications-minded Trustee

Location: Open, must be willing to collaborate with Eastern Times in mind

Position: Part-time; 10 hrs/week at $20 – $25/hour. Time and days of work are flexible

Purpose:

To develop and execute a range of communications and engagement activities that connect, inform, and grow the UUSJ community and uplift the work of UUSJ partners across the globe.

Overview:

UUSJ is seeking a collaborative, resourceful, tech-savvy individual to join our team to assist with social media growth, e-newsletter editing, and website maintenance and updates

Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall support in the development, implementation, and execution of UUSJ’s communications plans and activities
  • Assist in managing the organization’s social media channels (including drafting content for Twitter and Facebook) and building towards other channels (including LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.)
  • Assist in compiling and editing monthly email newsletters, and monitoring and reporting on analytics
  • Provide support in maintaining content on the website including uploads and updating the site routinely with news and program information
  • Perform light in-house design, editing, and layout as needed for reports, webinars, Google Slides, PowerPoint decks etc.
  • Work with the website manager to draft website content and updates, identify and implement enhancements to the website, fix bugs, and maintain website integrity
  • Collect and report on the qualitative and quantitative audience and performance data building to cover existing gaps using Google Analytics, in-app social metrics, and other applicable tools 
  • Provide operations and administrative support such as setting up and providing support of webinars, data entry, and ensuring data quality in CRM (Customer relationship management) and other duties as assigned
  • Assist with outreach for UUSJ initiatives, including working with action teams and stakeholders to develop messaging, statements, and promotional materials.

 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • High School Diploma is required. Associate Degree preferred, equivalent experience will be taken into consideration
  • 1-2 years of experience in communications, editing, journalism, or social media management
  • Willingness to collaborate and learn with the goal of successfully growing into the role and needs of the organization
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills required
  • Experience with social media – e.g., Facebook, Twitter (required)  LinkedIn, Hootsuite, (preferred), Instagram, and TikTok (plusses)
  • Experience assisting with data-cleaning / data management (required)  SALSA CRM, a major plus 
  • Experience with Mailchimp, G Suite/Google workspace (accepted); SALSA Engage, a major plus
  • Experience with Canva, WordPress, PowerPoint, and G Suite/Google workspace (accepted); 
  • Ability to manage multiple, simultaneous workflows; strong intuition for prioritization 
  • Ability and ease in working both independently and collaboratively
  • Strong interpersonal skills – including a sense of humor and a positive approach
  • Excellent verbal, organizational, and analytical skills
  • Graphic Design experience – e.g., creating templates using Word and PowerPoint (preferred)
  • Knowledge of one or more areas of social justice work (democracy, racial justice, immigration, environment, economic injustice) is a plus
  • Knowledge of the Unitarian Universalism faith is a plus
