Day 1 – Honoring a Decade of Shared Leadership
Dear friends,
Today we begin 10-for-10, a celebration of ten years of shared leadership under Executive Director Pablo De Jesús — and a 10-day campaign to fuel the next decade of UUSJ’s justice work.
As a Board, we want to honor not only Pablo’s contributions, but the collective effort of volunteers, partners, congregations, and coalitions who have shaped UUSJ’s journey.
“Time is layered. You have to dig a little deeper, go back a little further, to really understand anything you see at a particular moment in time.” – Pablo DeJesus
As Unitarians and Universalists in Washington DC, we carry a justice lineage that stretches from the Civil Rights Era to today.
UUSJ’s organizational journey began in 1999–2000, responding to a growing desire for a loud, unified UU voice on public policy issues in DC, grounded in activism. Our earliest priorities focused on Civil Marriage and educational funding. In 2010, we underwent a further transformation, evolving into the organization we are today.

Pablo’s decade sits within that long arc — and we are grateful for the many hands that have carried this work forward.
Over the next 10 days, we’ll share stories of:
- moral courage
- coalition victories
- values-rooted decision-making
- unfinished justice
- and the people behind the policy
