Hour-long panel, followed by Q&A Equality Maryland is partnering with Hearts & Homes and PFLAG Howard County to host an Information Session for potential foster parents, specifically in consideration of the needs of LGBT foster youth,. Click here for more information, or visit the Facebook page to let us know you’ll be there. The session will start with a panel featuring a current foster parent who will speak about their role, an LGBT adult who was in foster care, and Hearts & Homes staff who will give information about opportunities to get involved and be a foster parent. There will be plenty of time for Q&A after the panel. Whether you’ve considered becoming a foster parent before, or just want to learn more about it, I hope you’ll join us for the Information Session on Wednesday, January 28th. Working to create safer spaces for LGBT youth – includingyouth in foster care – is part of our mission to ensure every LGBT Marylander is free to live without fear of prejudice and discrimination. Rejection at home because of their sexual orientation or gender identity has major consequences for LGBT youth, such as increasing challenges at school and impacting their mental health.
