Join UUCA members of UUs for Social Justice and OneVirginia2021 for a film screening of GerryRIGGED: Turning Democracy on its Head.

In jurisdictions nationwide legislators have drawn political district lines so they choose their voters, rather than voters being able to choose their legislators. GerryRIGGED explores non-partisan reform efforts underway in Virginia and at the national level to address partisan gerrymandering and ensure fair elections.

After the screening learn about voter registration and Get Out The Vote efforts in Virginia. OneVirginia2021 Executive Director, Brian Cannon, will answer questions and offer action steps. Organization including VOICE will be present to discuss ways to engage in outreach efforts.

OneVirginia2021: Virginians for Fair Redistricting, brings together concerned citizens from all over the Commonwealth to reenergize forces for fair, non-partisan redistricting. This organization is committed to education and advocacy, with a multi-partisan approach that includes Republicans, Democrats, and Independents. As part of their educational outreach, they have created the documentary GerryRIGGED: Turning Democracy on Its Head.

This film examines the historical context and consequences of gerrymandering through a multi- partisan lens that includes Republicans, Democrats, Independents, Libertarians and the Tea Party. It explores the impact on communities and individual lives by including testimonials from strategists, political consultants, and map drawers, and by incorporating interviews with the men and women in politics who have the most to win – and perhaps lose – through reform.
