The UUSJ Social Justice Grant Fund supports programs enhancing the impact of social justice efforts among congregations. The proceeds from the  2008-2017 Social Justice Awards Benefit Galas create a way for UUSJ member congregations and UUSJ affiliate organizations to increase the frequency, impact and visibility of UU social justice efforts. We encourage initiatives from a variety of organizations and partnerships that amplify Unitarian Universalism as expressed in our UU Principles and Values through our denominational Statements of Conscience, Actions of Immediate Witness, and resolutions.

Process for Application and Guidelines:

  • The UUSJ Chair has authority to approve expenditures for a variety of social justice program expenses. The UUSJ Chair will consider requests on an ongoing basis of up to $500. Requests for funding will be acknowledged within three business days. A final funding decision will be made within three weeks.
  • Contact UUSJ at info@uusj.org for information and to submit your grant request application form. The application request form is below and can be downloaded here.
  • Only one UUSJ grant may be awarded to the same program, event or project.
  • We do not award grants to individuals.
  • Previously funded grantees are only eligible to apply every two years. It is not the intent of UUSJ to provide ongoing support to the same programs, events, projects, from the same or affiliated congregations or organizations every year.
  • UUSJ grant recipients agree to acknowledge the UUSJ grant in advertising the project/event and in the event program. For example, the UU Church (or Congregation) of ______ gratefully acknowledges funding support by the Unitarian Universalists for Social Justice.
  • Grant recipients must submit a final report.
